Chinese Oxtail Dao Sword

Chinese "ox-tail" dao sword with nice age patina. This one is believed Qing Dynasty and should date from the latter part of that period.
The "oxtail" sword (niu wei dao) or curved Chinese "broad sword" has a saber-like blade pattern with a pronounced curve, weighted towards the end. It is a chopping or hacking weapon, rather large in size and somewhat heavy; blades average 30"-34" in length. These were true close-combat weapons and were mainly carried by civilians (what we would call militia); they required less training to use than other sword patterns of the period.
