Prussian Plain Hilt
Artillery Officer's Saber,
circa WWI

This is an Imperial German Prussian Plain Hilt Artillery Officer's Saber - artillery is indicated by the inscription on the blade. These are considered Imperial German - beginning about 1890 - but variants were used in several branches of the German Army through WWII. Nazi Third Reich specimens are similar, but will display the "eagle and swastika" emblazoned on the cross-guard langets.
You can usually find the manufacturer's name on the blade ricasso (the blade flat near the crossguard), hidden by these langets.
Hilt is nickel-plated, P-guard; plain pommel; grip is leather with wire wrap.
Single-edged blade, single fuller on both sides.
Scabbards are sheet-rolled steel, single hanger ring, all black enameled.
