Imperial German
Non-Commissioned
Officer's Saber,
(aka German Army NCO Sword)

This is an Imperial German Non-Commissioned Officer's Saber - and was used from about 1890 though World War II; this example has the plain hilt and neither blade nor langets (the ears that extend downward over the blade flat or ricasso) indicate the branch of service. These are considered Imperial German, but Nazi Third Reich specimens are similar, but will display the "eagle and swastika" emblazoned on the cross-guard langets on most, the exception being NCO swords.
You can usually find the manufacturer's name on the blade ricasso (the blade flat near the crossguard), hidden by these langets. This particular example bears no maker mark(s).
Hilt is constructed of nickel-plated steel, P-guard; dove-head pommel; grip is black composite with decorative wire wrap.
Single-edged blade, single fuller on both sides.
Scabbards are sheet-rolled steel, single hanger ring, all nickel-plated.
