Colt Model 1878 Frontier Double-Action Revolver

The Colt Model 1878 "Frontier" Double-Action Revolver was produced from 1878 to 1905. These can be found chambered from .22 rimfire to 476 Eley; most commonly found in 32-20 WCF, 38-40 WCF, 41 Colt, 44-40 WCF, and 45 Colt. Six-shot revolving cylinder, with barrel lengths ranging from 2-1/2" to 12"; with and without ejectors; most common barrel lengths found are 4-3/4", 5-1/2" and 7-1/2". Standard grips were black checkered hard rubber, with some available in wood; optional grips were also available (this example has non-factory grips). The Colt Model 1878 "Frontier" Double-Action Revolver was preceded by the smaller frame Colt Model 1877 Lightning and Thunderer Double-Action Revolver models; these guns were very similar but were not able to handle larger, more powerful cartridges.
