Welcome to the John O. Meusebach Chapter (No. 48) of the Sons of the Republic of Texas Unofficial Web Page. We are part of a thriving Texas-wide organization, dedicated to preserving our heritage in Texas; especially the Texas Hill Country where we reside.

Based in Fredericksburg, we also have members in Boerne, Comfort, Ft. McKavett, Horseshoe Bay, Leakey, Llano, Kerrville, San Saba, Stonewall, and other locations in the surrounding counties.

Our chapter is based upon a typical volunteer Texas militia unit - circa 1836 to 1845 - and we currently own (privately) three cannons. One is a full-size 6-pounder, built to be an exact copy of one of the Twin Sisters used at the Battle of San Jacinto; ours has been dubbed "The Other Sister." The second cannon is a full-size 12-pounder boat howitzer - based on a Dahlgren - and the third is a full-scale field piece to be completed by Summer 2005 (we keep pushing this out).

We invite you to join our group, preserve our heritage, and join in the fun!

We meet on a monthly basis, generally the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM. The standard meeting location is the Central Texas Electric COOP Building, 386 Friendship Lane, Fredericksburg, Texas. However, the August 2nd 2005 meeting will be at Hill Top Cafe in Fredericksburg. You can make your reservations by contacting Sam Smith by July 15th, 2005.

The Defenders.
