Colt Lightning Medium-Frame Slide-Action Saddle-Ring Carbine, 44-40 WCF (aka 44 CLMR [44 Colt Lightning Magazine Rifle]); 20" round barrel. Serial number 2822, manufactured circa 1884, first year production, antique.
Top of barrel reads, "COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG.CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." over "+ ELLIOT'S PATENTS MAY 29, 1883, SEPT 18, 1883 +"; left side of barrel reads, "44 Cal.".
Various stock dings, scratches, nothing appears major, shows wear; some light scattered rust; less than 20% original finish remains; stock shows some wear; rear sight is a replacement set of two-leaf express sights; extractor was missing and has now been replaced. Dark bore.
