This is a Japanese knife/sword bayonet, manufactured from the period of about 1897 to about 1937 at the Tokyo arsenal (three stacked cannon balls symbol stamped on blade ricasso, see images).
Overall length, in scabbard, is ~20-5/8"; bayonet, out of scabbard, is ~20" in overall length. Forward-swept blade-breaker lower quillon; crossguard and pommel and made of steel; stamped into right grip is the number, "233"; attaching mechanism (button) is on left side of pommel and is functional; two-piece grips are made of wood and are heavily worn; original screws with ovoid bezels and nuts hold grips in place.
Straight single-edged blade is ~15-5/8" in length, ~11/16" wide at ricasso; blade bears an old sharpening to the cutting edge; fullered groove is ~12" in length.
Scabbard is ~16-1/4" in length; scabbard throat has a metal loop for attaching leather strap from belt attaching frog (not included); drag has a ball finial. Bend in scabbard (both sides) to prevent rattling (see images).
Overall condition is fair to good.
