Scarce German Commission Carbine, Kar.88, believed to be 7.92x57 Mauser (aka 8mm Mauser). Manufactured by V.C. Schilling, Suhl, Germany, 1892. I bought it at an estate auction and it reportedly came out of Mexico a long time ago. It is also reported to have belonged to a General Rafael Vargas of the Mexican Army. I cannot confirm this, but stamped into the stock is the lettering, "GRAL. R.V." (I acquired it at the same auction as a rare Japanese Type 38 Mexican Contract Rifle dated 1913, with the stock stamped in the same fashion); there are no export markings on either that I can find. Unit marked on the barrel bands; various inspector stamps overall in various locations (see images). Appears to be complete and matching serial numbers. Good stock, good action, good bore, good overall condition.
Used gun. Antique. Not sold as a shooter; no warranty implied or given. Please have any gun you intend to shoot - in any fashion - checked by a competent gunsmith.
