Original Bows (3), Arrows (23), Quiver (1), and Shield (1) used by the Akamba people of Kenya, Africa. I acquired these from a gentleman whose family in turn acquired them from a museum selling off its collections in the 1930s.
The bows are all made of tropical wood - the longest one being ~57" and the two shorter youth bows being 31-1/2" and 31". The longest bow is an elephant hunting bow; the two shorter bows are ritual initiation gifts only meant to be used with their shorter arrows in the ceremonial killing of small animals such as lizards during second phase of the Akamba Rites of Initiation. These two shorter bows are partially covered in animal fur.
There are twenty-three arrows, most metal tipped, skillfully crafted, with various shapes (see images); various lengths ranging from ~16" to ~25".
The quiver is of finely stitched leather and ~26" in length.
The shield is a woven reed-like material and is ~34-1/2" in length, ~11" in width, and ~4" deep.
Very good condition overall. Several arrows have tips broken off (see images), but could be repaired. No bowstrings came with the lot.
A nice addition to any ethnic arms collection.
