This is a German Model S-98 n/A (or seitengewehre 1898 nuer art). These were originally manufactured with fragile one-piece wood grips, and in 1902 began using more rugged two-piece wood grips. This is when the designation was changed from S-98 (aka S-98 a/A alte art or old model) to S-98 n/A (nuer art or new model. These bayonets were manufactured between 1898 and 1914. This particular bayonet was manufactured by V.C. Schilling of Suhl, Thuringen, Germany. Imperial proof marks are stamped into the bayonet pommel on the left side; regimental markings, "B.8.R.11.41" are stamped into the scabbard throat on the left side.
Overall length in scabbard is ~27-1/8"; overall length out of scabbard is ~25-3/4". Pipe-back blade length is ~20-5/8" and is maker marked.
Overall condition is about good, but blade has been sharpened (see images); this will clean up somewhat. Scabbard is good but has several dents in left side of chape; screw is missing from the throat.
